Week 3 postpartum hormone reset is integration week. Sleep comes back here. If youβre still waking at 3am, your thyroid and blood sugar need this.
Iβm Vera, biochemist + mom of 2. By Week 3, the initial acute shock of birth has settled, but chronic sleep loss can keep your nervous system stuck in overdrive. Getting deep, restful sleep when your hormones are wired requires a strategic approach.

Week 3 is designed to rebuild your baseline sleep architecture, support healing, and test whether your system is effectively recovering.
Below is exactly what I did Days 15β16 to fix 3am wake-ups. This is straight from Week 3 of my 21-Day Postpartum Hormone Reset Protocol.
Let’s fix your sleep and healing right now:
Why 3am Wake-Ups Happen Postpartum
Weeks 1 and 2 stopped the 10am crash and stabilized the 3pm rage. Week 3 focuses on rebuilding your foundation. When cortisol and blood sugar are stable, your body can finally drop into deep, restorative sleep.
The common advice to sleep when the baby sleeps often fails because your endocrine system is chemically wired. High cortisol levels at 11pm keep you lying awake staring at the ceiling, while low progesterone levels cause you to wake up abruptly at 3am.
This week addresses:
- Achieving deep sleep even alongside night feeds.
- Supporting C-section scar healing and vaginal tissue repair.
- Navigating the realistic timeline for physical recovery.
- Testing your energy to confirm if your body is healing on schedule.
Recovery Note: C-section scars may itch or burn as tissues repair β adding collagen and vitamin C is key this week. For vaginal births, low estrogen while breastfeeding can cause dryness and stinging; sitz baths twice daily provide relief.
Golden Rule for Week 3: Do not introduce complex new meal plans. Simply repeat your Week 1 and 2 meals so your body receives predictable consistency.
Days 15-16: Sleep Stack Protocol + Scar Care
The Sleep Stack (Execute 1 hour before YOUR bedtime, not baby’s)
- Magnesium Glycinate (400mg): Relaxes the nervous system and lowers baseline cortisol.
- Glycine (3g powder in warm chamomile tea): Promotes deep sleep cycles without morning grogginess.
- Cool Room Temperature: Set your bedroom to 68Β°F or colder to trigger natural melatonin release.
- Lighting Protocol: Use red light only after 8pm (turn on Night Shift mode on your phone or wear blue-light blocking glasses).
Night Feed Rules
- Keep room lights OFF – use a soft red night light only.
- Avoid looking at your phone. Blue light triggers a quick cortisol spike that keeps you awake for 2 hours post-feed.
- Keep interactions minimal: feed, change, and put baby back down without talking or playing.
C-Section Scar Massage (Start Day 15+ ONLY if cleared by your OB)
- Use clean hands with Vitamin E oil or coconut oil.
- Perform gentle circular motions around the scar (never directly on it) for 2 minutes daily to break up adhesions and reduce the “shelf” appearance.
- Stop immediately if you experience pain, bleeding, or oozing, and contact your OB.
Vaginal Healing Support
- Do 2 sitz baths daily (1/4 cup Epsom salt + 5 drops lavender oil).
- Tissue dryness is a expected result of low estrogen during lactation; use coconut oil for comfort once cleared by your doctor.
Day 21: Energy Test β Are You Healed Yet?
At Day 21, assess your baseline healing by answering these four questions:
- Can you stay awake for 3+ hours without needing a nap? (Y/N)
- Do you have at least 1 moment a day where you feel “like yourself”? (Y/N)
- Can you make a basic daily decision without feeling overwhelmed to tears? (Y/N)
- Are you successfully eating breakfast before 9am at least 5 out of 7 days? (Y/N)
Scoring & Action Plan
